Alexandre Mendes
Founder of Skills Lab
Since 2008, he has been putting best efforts to help country overcome the economic crisis and change paradigm when fostering knowledge transference from universities and R&D institutions.
Being resourceful and an infinite learner, he works passionately to deliver tangible results and to engage a network of stakeholders for a shared purpose.
Also, taking benefit out of his academic background he is usually hired for a hands-on consulting with companies on topics like scaling teams, leadership development, and innovation.
In the end of the day, he feels driven when fostering the intersection of knowledge to develop solutions for two central clusters: how do we create companies that fit the 21st-century management challenges and that are competitive at the global scale? And, how do we develop a schooling system and other initiatives that might help people adopt digital technologies, find a career and meaning in their lives, re-skill if they have to, or develop enough resources to cope with this VUCA paradigm?
As the Executive Director of Startup Braga, from September 2017 to January of 2020, he successfully leds a team that multiplied the results. They went from 96 to 138 new startups and from 12M€ to 51.1M€. Their also redesigned programs and grew network and influence becoming a national reference and internationally acknowledged.
Yet, He feels a profound joy in having created Skills Lab or Creators School that prototyped solutions for long term unemployed young graduates that are now delivering value to the companies with whom they are working. 95% of the people he worked with at the time are still working successfully. Skills Lab was about believing in people’s growth, leveraging an ecosystem, matchmaking with companies and being innovative and intense in the format ...and this sums up my regular approach to a new challenge.
